Weather plans

Clouds over the Alps?
Keep a good day in reserve.

Keep the day you go up the mountain flexible where you can. Choose a lower-level or indoor alternative before the weather makes the decision for you.

A Swiss lake valley below Alpine mountains

Check the place you are going, not just the town.

Before committing to a mountain day, check the operator’s weather information, webcams and open services. Rain in Lucerne does not tell you everything about a summit; clear skies in town do not mean it is clear at the top.

  • Is the route or lift operating today?
  • Can you see the view you are going for?
  • Does the return plan leave enough time and energy for the evening?
  • What can you change under the ticket terms you hold?

Use the official Pilatus live information or Rigi live information for the mountain you choose. Check the information again before leaving.

Pick the backup that suits this day.

A full indoor day

If the family wants a bigger activity, consider the Swiss Museum of Transport. Read its visit information for current tickets, opening hours and what your chosen ticket includes.

A smaller day in town

Choose one indoor stop, a short walk when conditions suit, and a nearby meal. The day before another train ride may be better with fewer plans.

A boat or another outdoor outing is an option only after checking its current service and conditions. A different ticket does not automatically make the day easier.

Choose the backup before you need it. Save where to go, when it opens and how to get there, so a wet morning does not become another planning session.

Leave more than one possible mountain day.

A longer stay gives you more days to choose from. If a mountain view is a priority, compare that flexibility with the cost of another hotel change. Check whether any tickets or activities tie you to a date before moving plans around.

Add the activities and bookings you choose to your trip. A date-change preview can show affected rides and bookings you added; you still arrange ticket changes with the providers.
